Medical School?
- Medical school typically is 4 years long, however if you want a combination degree such as an MD / MPH, or MD / PhD, it can take up to 5 years. Most medical schools require a bachelors degree from an accredidated college or university prior to admission. This is usually also a requirement for most states you would practice in. The degree you earn doesn't matter, so do whatever you are most interested in. do not chose to be a Chemistry or Biology major unless you really want to. I am attending Texas A&M now as a pre - med student, but my major is Health Science. I did have to take additional courses to fufill my premed requirement. These courses are 8 credits hours each of Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physics. Some schools also require that you take Calculus or Statistics. Medical school cost can vary depending on if you go to a private or public school. I am taking the MCAT next year and so I am looking at schools everywhere and I have seen tuition range from 10, 000 to over 40, 000 dollars. Medical school is compe ive. Right now I am working on increasing my science GPA because med. schools look at both the science GPA and overall GPA. I have about 3 more semesters of cl es left before I graduate, so I am planning on taking a couple of extra science courses to help make up for a C I got early on in Chemistry. Since then however I have kept all my grades especially the science grades A's and B's. The typical successful candidate will have a 3. 5 or above GPA overall, and an even higher science GPA. There are osteopathic schools who accept slightly lower GPA's and MCAT scores. The MCAT is the second thing med. schools look at when evaluating your application. Try to do very well on this exam, which covers your basic sciences and verbal reasoning. There is also an essay portion. Good luck to you
